Top Places to Visit in Copenhagen

I just had an amazing trip to the Highlands of Iceland, followed by a few relaxing days in Copenhagen. So I thought I should share with you all the nice places I have been to in Copenhagen!

Where to Eat In Copenhagen?

When it comes to vegan or vegetarian food, there are plenty of, if not too many, options you could find in Copenhagen. From fine dining to casual eateries, from desserts to bakeries, there is definitely something for everyone.

1. A Green Michelin Restaurant – Restaurant ARK

I had the most amazing dinner Iโ€™ve had in my life at Restaurant ARK! Ever since I started seeing posts of people dining at ARK on social media, visiting there has always been a dream to me. As I was in Copenhagen, I finally got the chance to try it and Iโ€™m so glad that I did! ARK is the first ever vegan restaurant in the Nordics to be awarded with the Michelin Green Star. With sustainability as the main theme of the restaurant, each course is carefully curated, allowing you to explore a wide range of flavors and textures. Itโ€™s definitely a vegan dining experience that you can by no means miss.

Throughout the 9-course tasting menu, the server made sure to explain the full story behind the creation of that dish and how do they ensure everything is made with sustainability in mind. I chose the non-alcoholic pairing that day and I am pretty surprised on how good this is. Every drinks are presented nicely with flavors that complement perfectly with the following dish. If you happen to be in Copenhagen and is hesitant of trying out ARK, DON’T! Head to their website and made a booking. It is so worth it and the dining experience will blow your mind!

2. A Passion Project in Copenhagen – Bistro Verde

Bistro Verde was created with the idea to bring new, innovative and delicious plant based food to the masses with no fuzz. This includes finding some of the best plant based alternatives on the market and incorporating these in our menu. It was also important these were served in a place looking no different to the bistro next door – just a normal place to go and eat.

Frederik Hasselkjaer – Owner of Bistro Verde

My first and last place to eat in Copenhagen during this trip is this cute little bistro near my hotel. Conveniently located just opposite to my hotel, I find myself visiting Bistro Verde quite often whenever I am in need of a drink, some vegan desserts, pastries or a hearty meal. Apart from tasty vegan food, they also make really nice mocktails too!

3. Best Vegan Ice cream in the world – Moo Moo Isbar

Moo Moo Isbar is a 100% plant-based ice cream place serving different flavors of vegan ice cream from more traditional flavors like chocolate, caramel etc, to more fun and innovative flavors including unicorn, licorice and soleros. They have the best vegan ice cream Iโ€™ve ever had! Most vegan ice cream is coconut based, so there is always a hint of coconut flavor. Donโ€™t get me wrong, I love coconut, but I donโ€™t like having coconut flavor in every taste of my ice cream. I had to go back for a second time on Sunday as they only open drom Fri to Sun. Flavors Iโ€™ve tried are Oreo, pistachio, hazelnut, dark chocolate and soleros, and I have to say, the pistachio and dark chocolate are my favourites. Would highly recommend you to visit if you visit Copenhagen!

4. My favorite Brunch Spot in Copenhagen – Kaf

Kaf is a cute hidden gem in Nรธrrebro Copenhagen, they specialized in naturally leavened vegan pastries and desserts. I have been following their Instagram account for a while and always wanted to visit them in real life. Hence, this time itโ€™s my turn! I ordered the brunch complete plate and a croissant wave. Would love to try their pain au chocolat, unfortunately, the person in front of me bought the last one. Nonetheless, both items I ordered are extremely scrumptious! The brunch plate comes with whipped butter, vegan yogurt with cruchy granola, chocolate hazelnut butter, avocado, a sourdough bun and vegan cheese, aka vegan goodness in a plate. Also, I tried their home brewed chai latte, which is definitely one of the best Iโ€˜ve ever had so far!

5. Garbanzo

I actually discovered this shop accidentally when I was on my way to Moo Moo Isbar in Nordhavn. I then looked it up on Google and realize that there is another branch not so far from my hotel. As I have been craving for some good salads, I decided to give it a go. I went in there, and the first thing I notice is how welcoming it is, from the warm interior to the friendly staff, I already made me feel like I have made the right choice visiting there.

The shop has an open kitchen, where you can see all food is made fresh to order. It did get really busy during lunch hour, so be prepared to spend a while waiting for your food to be prepared or order in advance via their website! I visited there twice during my trip and on both occasions, I ordered the falafel bowl with tahini dressing. The falafels are made fresh. Salads are very flavorful and filled with textures such as the crunchiness from pomegranate and chewiness from the grains. It’s a very filling bowl at a very reasonable price (especially in Copenhagen).

My Top Coffee Places in Copenhagen

If you are into Specialty coffee, you definitely already knew that Copenhagen is one of the top players in this field. Coffee culture is in this city as part of its DNA and Danes run on coffee. So there’s no doubt that everyone will find their favourite spot. But the following places particularly stood out for me.

6. April Coffee Roasters

“At april, we aim to learn, improve, and share our products with quality-focused partners around the world. We always strive to become better at what we do, roasting coffee.”

Patrik Rolf, founder

April is a coffee roastery in Copenhagen with the vision to progress the way they roast coffee. It is on the top of my cafe-to-visit list in Copenhagen, so I went there on my second day there. Bought a pack of Regessa – Ethiopia – Natural Krume and as Iโ€™m finally at the famous April coffee, I had to order a coffee. After consulting with the barista, I chose the Panama Geisha Limited pourover and it really didnโ€™t disappoint at all. The baristas are not only knowledgeable about their products, but they can also pick the perfect beans for you based on your preferences. If you love coffee, you must visit this cafe in Copenhagen!

7. CUB Coffee Bar

CUB Coffee Bar is a cosy coffee shop conveniently located in the city center, with lots of tourists attractions nearby. It’s the best place the take a rest and enjoy some delicious coffee after a busy day of walking around. As a bonus point, they even roast the coffee beans themselves, and you can easily see, feel and not least taste the staffโ€™s passion for coffee.

Where to Stay in Copenhagen?

When it comes to hotel, I’m very picky. Location has to be convenient, a good breakfast is a bonus but not a must. Most importantly, the rooms have to be spacious and comfortable. And I’m so glad that I finally found the perfect place to stay in Copenhagen!

9. Copenhagen Admiral Hotel

Admiral Hotel is a hotel in central Copenhagen, Denmark, located on the waterfront between the mouth of the Nyhavn canal and the royal residence Amalienborg Palace. The building is a former warehouse. With the perfect hospitality, carefully curated products selections and minimalistic renovations, it is truly a home away from home. Moreover, the hotel breakfast is especially outstanding, itโ€™s definitely the best one Iโ€™ve ever had. I really love that they provide all sorts of healthy choices, including immune shots, detox shots from @vigokombucha, healthy juices from @franklyjuice and freshly made smoothies. Their sourdough bread also tastes amazing too, perfect to pair with some jam or hummus. Albeit the ordinary look, the roasted carrot dish tastes extraordinarily good!

Honorable Mentions

10. Leife Chocolate (Temporarily closed)

I have been following Leife on Instagram for a while, so it only makes sense to pay their workshop a visit when I was in Copenhagen. Leife is a vegan chocolate workshop that specialises in making vegan desserts and of course chocolates. I had the pleasure to meet the mom of Alice (the talented founder of Leife) on the day I visited. And although I do feel a bit sad that the workshop at Allegade has now been closed, I canโ€™t wait to see what other creative projects Alice has in the future!

11. MK Studio

MK Studio is founded by Magdalena and Michal. Magdalena is a ceramicist and Michal is a chef. They met in Poznan in Poland, fell in love and then moved to Copenhagen. They make state of the art ceramics and the highly functional and gorgeous MK drippers. Owning one of MK Studioโ€˜s coffee drippers has always been my dream, but they usually sold out really quick and shipping is quite expensive. So as I was in Copenhagen, why not pay a visit to their workshop and pick up some goodies? I reached out to Magdalena in advance to check if there will be any drippers in stock. Fortunately, they do have some of them which are considered as โ€second qualityโ€œ, which means that there might be some imperfections in the drippers, but they donโ€™t affect the use and practicality of them. Iโ€˜m so glad that I finally joined the club!

I have been using the dripper non-stop since I came back to Hong Kong, and I can confirm that it makes my coffee tastes sweeter and the flavor profile is more prominent.
