10 Jan Scotland’s Ultimate Vegan Travel Guide 2026
Discovering Vegan Scotland Beyond Glasgow
When I first explored Glasgow and ventured into the Scottish Highlands in 2024, I fell in love not just with the rugged landscapes and misty mountains, but with the thriving vegan food scene that surprised me at every turn. Fast forward to June 2025, when I returned to Scotland with Alba Experience to explore the Scottish Highlands more deeply, and I discovered even more incredible vegan gems hidden throughout the region.
Scotland has become one of my favorite vegan travel destinations, proving that plant-based eating in the UK isn’t limited to London. From artisan bakeries serving perfect sourdough to boutique hotels competing for vegan breakfast bragging rights, Scotland is quietly becoming a vegan traveler’s paradise.
This updated guide combines my experiences from both trips and includes recommendations that will help you plan your own Scottish adventure. Whether you’re a vegan traveler, plant-based curious, or simply looking for exceptional food and stunning scenery, Scotland deserves a spot on your travel bucket list.
Glasgow: The Vegan Hub
Dorky French โ My Favorite Vegan Bakery in Glasgow (If Not the World!)
Dorky French is hands-down my favorite vegan bakery in Glasgow, and no trip is complete without a stop here. This 100% plant-based haven delivers French patisserie perfection with playful, irresistible flavors that had me stocking up for the entire Highlands road trip.
Every pastry is crafted with genuine care, proving that vegan baking can be just as indulgent and buttery as traditional French bakery classics. The display case is pure temptation, and everything photographs beautifully for your travel feed.
Must-try treats:
- Pistachio roll with white chocolate โ Creamy, nutty perfection in every spiral
- Crรจme brรปlรฉe danish โ That signature crack followed by silky vegan custard
- Vegan ham & cheese croissant โ Savory, flaky, and surprisingly spot-on
- Hazelnut pain au chocolat โ Rich chocolate-hazelnut filling in perfect pastry layers
Pro tip: Plan extra timeโyou’ll want one of everything, and the queue moves slower when people can’t decide between these incredible options.

Deanston Bakery โ The Gold Standard for Bread
If you’re serious about bread, Deanston Bakery is your destination. This isn’t just another cafรฉโit’s a masterclass in fermentation and craft. Their perfect bagels and sourdough are reason enough to build your morning around a visit.
The quality here is exceptional. You can taste the care that goes into every loaf, and they understand that good vegan baking starts with understanding dough, not just replacing ingredients. Arrive early, as the best selection goes quickly.
Must-try: Their weekend sourdough selection changes based on seasonal ingredientsโask what’s special when you visit.

Verse Coffee โ The Heart of Glasgow’s Vegan Scene
Verse Coffee is more than a cafรฉ; it’s a community hub that happens to beย LGBTQ+ friendly and incredibly dog-friendlyย (yes, your furry companion gets a warm welcome here). Located in Glasgow’s Southside, this gem has become a sanctuary for anyone seeking good vibes, excellent coffee, and entirelyย vegan baked goods.
The vibe is chill and creativeโperfect for remote work, reading, or simply watching Glasgow life pass by. The coffee quality is genuinely excellent, and their pastry selection rivals many European bakeries.
Why it stands out: Verse Coffee represents what modern Glasgow hospitality should beโinclusive, sustainable, and delicious.

The Green Goose โ Customizable Nutrition
This is the restaurant I always recommend for jet-lagged travelers arriving in Glasgow. The build-your-own salad concept means you control exactly what you eat while getting the nourishment you need after long flights.
The portions are generous (no need to eat twice!), and the flavor combinations prove that salads don’t have to be boring. Everything tastes fresh because everything is fresh.
Pro tip: This is your answer to that first meal when your stomach needs something familiar but exciting.

Into the Highlands: Where Nature Meets Vegan Cuisine
Coach House Coffee Shop & Store โ Highland Welcome
My first stop heading into the Highlands was Coach House Coffee Shop, and it set the tone for an incredible journey. Here, they serve stokies (a Scottish pastry) with hummus, roasted carrot, parsnip topped with rocketโa combination that sounds simple but showcases the creativity happening in Highland food venues.
The fact that they’re offering traditionally Scottish food with vegan variations shows how the region has evolved to welcome plant-based diners.

You & I Kombucha โ Unexpected Wellness Gem
You’ll find this kombucha bar in the midst of Highland exploring, and it’s the perfect pause point. Beyond their excellent kombucha selection, they serve genuinely nice coffee that will re-energize you for the rest of your adventure.

No. 26 by the Sea, Oban โ Coastal Elegance
This cute boutique hotel deserves a full night’s stay (or longer). It’s not just vegan-friendly; it’s vegan-enthusiastic. The fruit salad and vegan yogurt bowl is so beautifully presented that you’ll want to photograph it before eatingโand that’s exactly what Instagram-loving travelers expect in 2026.
The staff is genuinely friendly, rooms are lovely, and the breakfast experience sets the tone for a day of Highland exploration.

Cuillin Hills Hotel โ Isle of Skye’s Best-Kept Secret
I returned to Cuillin Hills Hotel this June, and I’m thrilled to report it maintains its position as one of Scotland’s finest accommodations. Recently ranked in Tripadvisor’s TOP 10% of restaurants worldwide, their commitment to quality cuisine extends beautifully to vegan options.
After a full day exploring the Isle of Skye, I ordered their in-room dining serviceโa luxury that’s perfect for exhausted but hungry travelers. I enjoyed:
- Bread platter with vegan butter โ Simple, but executed with care
- Summer salad โ Fresh, seasonal, perfectly balanced
- Cauliflower katsu curry โ The comfort food that sealed my love for this hotel
The restaurant’s inclusion in Tripadvisor’s elite list proves that you don’t need animal products to create world-class cuisine.

CalMac Ferry โ Vegan at Sea
Traveling between the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides means taking the CalMac ferry, and I was pleasantly surprised by their vegan burger. Yes, a surprisingly freshly made and delicious vegan burger at seaโit sounds like a rarity, but CalMac is leading the way in ferry hospitality. The fries are excellent too, making this the perfect break during island-hopping.

The Outer Hebrides: Remote Vegan Adventures
Hotel Hebrides โ Inner Hebridean Excellence
Staying at Hotel Hebrides felt like reaching the edge of the world in the best possible way. This hotel has embraced vegan dining with genuine enthusiasm:
For lunch/dinner:
- Celeriac soup with super fluffy bread rolls
- Tomato salad with pesto
For breakfast (the meal I most looked forward to each morning):
- Fresh vegan chia puddings
- Fresh fruits with muesli
- Freshly made to order tomato and mushroom on toastโthe fact that they make this to order, every morning, shows their commitment to plant-based guests

The Deli โ Local Charm in Every Bite
Just around the corner from Hotel Hebrides, The Deli is the kind of place that makes island communities special. They serve super delicious vegan sandwiches and muffins, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming that you’ll feel like a local within minutes.
This is where you grab lunch before exploring the beaches, or pick up a snack for your adventure. Quality, warmth, and genuine careโall the things you need when traveling remotely.

The Bothy, Isle of Harris โ Vegan Hospitality From the Heart
The Bothy on the Isle of Harris quickly became one of the most memorable stops of this trip thanks to the kindness of the owner. When I mentioned that I was vegan and didnโt see anything clearly marked on the menu, they happily created an incredible off-menu vegan tofu sandwich just for me, packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients and made with so much care. The coffee here is also lovely, making it a perfect cozy stop to refuel between exploring Harrisโ world-famous beaches and rugged landscapes.

Back to Glasgow: The Perfect Ending
Radisson Blu Glasgow โ Five-Star Vegan Breakfast
After a full week exploring Scotland, I returned to Radisson Blu Glasgow to end my trip right. This hotel has invested in their vegan breakfast offering, featuring:
- Extensive vegan options (rare for hotel buffets)
- Vegan yogurt (genuinely rare to find at hotel breakfast buffets)
- All the fresh fruit, pastries, and hot options you need to start your day right
The rooms are huge and cozyโthe perfect place to decompress before heading to the airport. Radisson Blu understands that returning guests remember not just the room, but how they were welcomed as a plant-based traveler.

Planning Your Scottish Vegan Adventure
Best Time to Visit
I visited in June both years, and it’s genuinely the perfect season. Long daylight hours mean more time exploring, pleasant weather (mostly!), and the Scottish landscape at its most vibrant green. The Highlands are less crowded than summer peak, and you can actually book accommodations without months of advance notice.
Getting Around
- Glasgow: Walking and local buses make navigation easy
- Highlands: A rental car is essential for exploring at your own pace
- Islands: CalMac ferries connect the Hebridesโbook ahead during peak season
Budget Considerations
Scotland is increasingly budget-friendly for plant-based travelers. You’ll find vegan options at every price point, from budget cafรฉs like Coach House to fine dining at Cuillin Hills. Budget ยฃ25-40 per day for food if you mix self-catering with restaurant meals.
Packing Tips for Highland Exploring
- Waterproof jacket (non-negotiable)
- Comfortable hiking boots
- Layers (weather changes rapidly)
- Reusable water bottle (Scotland has incredible tap water)
- Camera (you’ll want to capture the scenery)
Photography Opportunities Throughout Scotland
The Scottish Highlands are a photographer’s dream. My Alba Experience trip through the Highlands yielded some of my favorite travel photographyโdramatic mountain ranges, moody lochs, and golden hour light that’s hard to find anywhere else.
If you’re interested in seeing the stunning scenery I explored, check out these images I took featuring the Highlands trip. You’ll understand immediately why I’m returning to Scotland this Juneโthis time to explore the dramatic coastlines and ancient ruins of Orkney.
Looking Ahead: Orkney Awaits (June 2026)
As I prepare for my next Scottish adventure this June, I’ll be exploring OrkneyโScotland’s most northerly island group. If you’ve been to Orkney and found great vegan spots, I’d love to hear from you! Please share your recommendations in the comments below, and I’ll include them in my Orkney travel update later this year.
